As a Software Development Engineer focused on building secure channel solutions for AWS foundational services, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing highly secure, scalable, and performant communication channels for diverse AWS offerings. Your primary responsibility will be to implement robust encryption in transit mechanisms to protect data in transit, ensuring the end-to-end security of customer information. You will collaborate closely SDEs across AWS services, as well as security teams and program managers, to build solutions that address complex security challenges, constantly working to optimize and harden our secure channels to meet evolving compliance and regulatory requirements.
Throughout this process, you will demonstrate your experience as a software engineer with a focus on building secure distributed systems. You may bring a deep understanding of network security, cryptography, and secure communication protocols, such as TLS and QUIC, or you may be excited to learn more about these topics. Your proficiency in programming languages like Rust or Java will be instrumental in your success. You bring a strong customer focus to your work, ensuring that the solutions you build will be easy to adopt and operate. Your strong problem-solving skills and your capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment will make you a valuable part of the team.
In this role, you will collaborate with customers and peers to define the solutions that you build. You will mentor more junior teammates, sharing your knowledge and expertise to help them grow and develop. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will allow you to liaise with cross-functional stakeholders effectively, ensuring the seamless integration of your secure channel solutions into the broader AWS ecosystem.

A day in the life
As a Secure Channel Systems SDE, you'll dive deep into requirements with SDEs from AWS service teams, with Sr. SDEs and PEs, and with security experts to inform your designs. You'll rely on experiments and proof-of-concept testing to gain confidence in the solutions you put forward. You'll spend time mentoring team members. You'll participate in architectural reviews and perform code reviews. With a keen focus on security, scalability, and reliability, you'll be a driving force behind the secure communication backbone that underpins AWS foundational services.
We are a communicative, collaborative, and curious group of engineers. Our team collaborates across organizational boundaries, working closely with SDEs, Principal Engineers, and security specialists across AWS to craft the right secure channel solutions for our most complex use cases. The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
