Are you passionate about leading teams that design and develop highly available, large-scale services? Would you like to empower engineers to invent and build solutions for customers that truly make a difference in their business? Are you an experienced Software Development Manager with a background in VMware technologies and a self-starter who is excited to build something new and work at cloud scale? If the answer is yes, then we have an exciting opportunity for you to lead a team on the Amazon Elastic VMware Service.
A wave of innovation is bringing sweeping changes to EC2 services with new virtualization capabilities, deep platform integrations, and unimaginable scale—revolutionizing traditional thinking around how we run enterprise workloads in the cloud. We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a team building new capabilities to help customers run VMware-based workloads on AWS. The AWS Commercial Applications team within Amazon EC2 defines and builds integrations with external software applications running in cloud environments and helps modernize enterprise customer workloads.
Our team launched Amazon EVS in August 2025, and is rapidly expanding to continue building new capabilities for our customers migrating and running VMware-based workloads on AWS. As an SDM, you will lead a team of engineers, drive technical strategy, mentor talent, and deliver customer-focused solutions at scale.
Key job responsibilities

Drive technical strategy and architecture decisions for integrating VMware-based workloads with AWS services, collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management, principal engineers, and external partners like Broadcom to define and execute the product roadmap
Operate and scale a global AWS service with distributed customers and infrastructure, establishing operational excellence through metrics-driven decision making, automated monitoring, and proactive issue resolution while maintaining Amazon's high performance bar
Take ownership of ambiguous, complex problems spanning multiple teams and organizations, breaking them down into actionable solutions, managing dependencies, and delivering results in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment
Champion customer obsession by deeply understanding customer pain points, gathering feedback, defining requirements, and ensuring the team delivers first-class experiences that drive customer adoption and satisfaction
Mentor and develop engineering talent through regular 1:1s, performance management, career development planning, and technical coaching, helping engineers grow their skills and advance their careers at Amazon
