We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer with experience in crane systems and industrial controls to support the development and support of overhead lifting equipment. This role is responsible for designing electrical systems, assisting with system startup, and ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently in accordance with industry standards.
This is a fully onsite position requiring hands-on involvement in both design and field support activities.
Electrical Design & System Development
Create electrical designs for overhead lifting systems including bridge, gantry, monorail, and workstation cranes
Develop schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts using CAD software
Specify components such as VFDs, conductor bars, festoon systems, limit switches, and safety devices
Perform calculations related to load requirements, power distribution, and motion control (hoist, trolley, bridge, and below-the-hook equipment)
Ensure all designs align with applicable codes and standards (CMAA, NEC, ASME)
Startup & System Implementation
Provide support during installation and commissioning of new systems and retrofit projects
Configure and test drives, soft starters, HMIs, and control components
Validate system performance through functional testing and adjustments
Troubleshooting & Ongoing Support
Diagnose issues involving motors, control panels, communication systems, and limit devices
Assist with breakdown response and implement corrective solutions
Support maintenance teams with technical expertise as needed
Safety & Compliance
Ensure systems and designs meet safety regulations and industry standards
Participate in safety reviews, inspections, and risk assessments
Maintain accurate documentation for system designs, updates, and modifications
Crane classifications and standards (CMAA)
Motor control systems for hoist, trolley, and bridge motions
VFDs, soft starters, and motor protection systems
Ability to read, develop, and interpret electrical schematics and technical documents
Familiarity with conductor bar systems, festoon systems, pendant controls, radio remote systems, and anti-collision technologies
This role offers the chance to work on specialized lifting and material handling systems, contributing to both new equipment design and modernization projects. It’s a strong fit for engineers who enjoy blending design work with hands-on system support in an industrial setting.
