This role is central to the smooth running of the firm's property practice, managing conveyancing transactions from instruction through to settlement, working directly within the NZ land transfer and title system, and liaising with clients and relevant parties throughout the process. The ideal candidate has solid New Zealand conveyancing experience, is confident using Land Online and a practice management system such as One Law or Smokeball, and can work independently while maintaining the firm's high standard of communication and accuracy.
Manage conveyancing transactions end-to-end, from initial instruction through to settlement
Liaise with clients, real estate agents, banks, and other relevant parties via email and phone throughout the transaction process
Work within the NZ land transfer and title system, including preparing and processing title dealings via Land Online (LINZ)
Prepare, review, and complete all settlement documentation and deliverables in line with NZ conveyancing requirements
Coordinate settlement logistics including settlement statements, requisitions, and confirmation of conditions
Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and file notes within the One Law practice management system (or equivalent)
Communicate proactively with clients to keep them informed at each stage of their transaction
Liaise with government departments and relevant authorities as required throughout the conveyancing process
Support the principal lawyer with file management and any additional tasks as needed
Minimum 2 years of hands-on conveyancing experience, with NZ-specific experience strongly preferred
Proficient in Land Online (LINZ). working knowledge of the NZ land information and title system is essential and covers the majority of this role's technical requirements
Experience with One Law practice management system or a comparable platform (e.g. Smokeball, LEAP)
Strong working knowledge of the NZ conveyancing process, including settlement procedures, title dealings, and relevant government departments
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, must be confident and professional when dealing with clients and third parties directly
Ability to work independently and manage multiple files simultaneously with a high level of accuracy and organisation
Must be available to work New Zealand business hours
PREFERRED SKILLS (nice to have)
Prior experience working within a New Zealand-based law firm
Exposure to Australian conveyancing processes (crossover experience considered)
Confident communicating directly with clients throughout the transaction, not just in a support capacity
Familiarity with residential and/or commercial property transactions across both sale and purchase matters
