About Nscale

Nscale is the GPU cloud engineered for AI. We provide cost-effective, high-performance

infrastructure for AI start-ups and large enterprise customers. Nscale enables AI-focused

companies to achieve superior results by reducing the complexity of AI development. Our GPU

cloud bolsters technical capabilities and directly supports strategic business outcomes, including

cost management, rapid innovation, and environmental responsibility.

At Nscale, our Engineering team plays a critical role in driving the deployment and then

subsequent management of our infrastructure and software platforms.

We thrive on a culture of relentless innovation, ownership, and accountability, where every team

member takes pride in their work and drives it with excellence and urgency. As an Nscaler, you’ll

build trust through openness and transparency, where everyone is inspired to do their best work. If

you join our team, you’ll be contributing to building the technology that powers the future.

About The Role

The Director of Lab Services will own Nscale’s lab environments and the operational foundations

that support engineering, platform, and infrastructure development. This role is accountable for

ensuring our development environments are well managed,

fi

t for purpose, and able to support

rapid iteration across hardware, systems, and cluster bring-up.

A key part of the role is building and operating lab capability for next-generation GPU

infrastructure. This includes ensuring the business has the right space, power, cooling,

connectivity, and operational readiness to support current and future hardware requirements.

The Director of Lab Services will also lead the team responsible for dogfooding our internal

automation and tooling, helping to ensure that clusters can be consistently brought up,

configured, and managed using our own platforms and operational workflows. The role will work

closely with engineering, infrastructure, and operations teams to improve reliability, scalability, and

speed of deployment across lab environments

What You'll Be Doing (Responsibilities)

Own the strategy, day-to-day operation, and continuous improvement of Nscale’s lab

environments.

Ensure development labs are reliable, secure, organised, and operationally ready to support

hardware validation, platform development, and cluster testing.

Lead planning and delivery for lab capacity, including rack space, power, cooling, cabling,

networking, and physical layout.

Develop and maintain standards for lab operations, asset lifecycle management,

equipment handling, change control, and environment readiness.

Build and lead a high-performing Lab Services team with clear priorities, processes, and

service expectations.

Partner with engineering, infrastructure, and platform teams to understand roadmap

requirements and translate them into lab capability and operational plans.

Provide technical and operational oversight for the introduction of next-generation GPU

systems and supporting infrastructure.

Ensure the lab estate is able to meet the demands of high-density compute environments,

with particular focus on power, cooling, resilience, and scalability.

Oversee hardware installation, bring-up, configuration, and maintenance activities within

the lab.

Drive the use of internal automation and tooling to provision, validate, and manage clusters

in lab environments.

Dogfood internal cluster lifecycle tooling and feed back operational insights to improve

automation, usability, reliability, and supportability.

Establish metrics, reporting, and service levels for lab availability, utilisation, readiness, and incident performance.

Own lab-related vendor and facilities relationships where needed, ensuring external

dependencies are managed effectively.

Ensure appropriate health, safety, security, and compliance controls are in place across all

lab spaces.

Support incident response and problem management for lab-related issues, driving root cause analysis and corrective actions.

About You

Strong technical understanding of modern hardware infrastructure, including server

platforms, storage, networking, and GPU-based systems.

Deep understanding of the operational requirements for next-generation GPU

infrastructure, including space, power, cooling, and physical deployment considerations.

Strong leadership capability, with experience building and managing operational or

technical services teams.

Ability to work effectively across facilities, hardware, engineering, infrastructure, and

software teams.

Strong planning, prioritisation, and execution skills, with the ability to balance immediate

operational needs with longer-term strategic goals.

Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach to operational delivery.

Good understanding of automation-led infrastructure operations and the value of using

internal tooling in real-world environments.

Familiarity with cluster bring-up, con

fi

guration management, and infrastructure lifecycle

practices.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to in

fl

uence across technical and

non-technical stakeholders.

Experience

Signi

cant experience in lab operations, technical infrastructure operations, data centre

environments, or a closely related function.

Proven experience owning environments that support hardware development,

infrastructure validation, or pre-production cluster testing.

Demonstrable experience working with high-density compute or GPU infrastructure and

the associated operational constraints.

Experience managing physical infrastructure dependencies such as power, cooling, rack

space, and facilities coordination.

Experience introducing or scaling operational processes for asset management,

environment readiness, access control, and service reliability.

Experience working with automation, provisioning, or platform teams to bring systems

online and manage them through tooling rather than manual processes.

Experience using operational feedback to improve internal tools, work

fl

ows, and service

quality.

Experience in fast-moving, high-growth, or technically complex environments is highly

desirable.

Experience supporting AI, HPC, or large-scale GPU cluster environments.

Familiarity with bare metal provisioning, cluster management, and infrastructure

automation tooling.

Experience working closely with facilities or data centre providers to design and support

specialised compute environments.

A degree in engineering, computer science, infrastructure, or a related discipline, or

equivalent practical experience.
