We’re looking for a Head of Engineering to lead the delivery of secure, reliable, and scalable technology platforms across payments, e-commerce, and digital gifting. Reporting to the CTO, you’ll lead a large and talented team of onshore and offshore engineers, delivering excellence through modern practices, a great culture and strong relationships.
What You’ll Do
Lead a Best-in-Class Engineering Team
Foster a culture of ownership, trust, learning, empowerment, collaboration and accountability throughout the engineering function
Define team structures, squad boundaries, and ways of working to support scalable, high-performing and quality delivery across distributed teams
Reduce key-person dependencies through knowledge sharing and capability building
Partner With the Business for our Mutual Success
Act as a trusted partner to Product and Technology teams for engineering delivery
Be accountable for delivering committed outcomes and be a problem solver to remove blockers and navigate complex challenges
Communicate risks, dependencies, and trade-offs clearly
Advocate for engineering quality, reliability, sustainability and delivery efficiency
Set the Technical Direction for Engineering
Define modern engineering standards and technical practices which deliver efficiency, quality, and innovation
Build AI/ML capability across engineering with clear standards and reusable patterns that scale across teams and locations
Continuously improve automation, DevOps, CI/CD, DevEx and delivery practices to support faster and safer delivery at scale
Provide input to the organisation’s technology choices and architecture patterns
Guide teams and advise the business on balancing innovation, technical debt, and platform reliability and deliver sustainable solutions
Solution Reliability & Quality
Uphold standards and guardrails across all teams
Lead retrospective reviews to improve observability, operability, service levels, organisational processes, and system resilience at scale
Ensure consistent levels of delivery quality, performance, and security across distributed squads
Lead Engineering Delivery
Own and deliver the engineering roadmap to support organisational strategy, product development and global scale
Ensure distributed teams deliver consistently, balancing feature development, platform improvements, and operational demands
Remove delivery bottlenecks across onshore/offshore teams through improved processes, tooling, and collaboration
Set Technical Direction
Define modern engineering standards and technical practices which deliver efficiency, quality, and innovation
Provide input to technology choices and decisions

Partner With the Business

About You
Experienced in leading large, distributed engineering teams, including onshore and offshore squads
Strong technical background in AWS, microservices, cloud-native systems, CI/CD, DevOps, DevEx, observability, and secure coding practices
Proven track record in delivering complex initiatives with high quality and predictable outcomes
Skilled in shaping engineering operating models and enabling Engineering Managers and Leadership
Commercially minded, with confidence to influence stakeholders and make practical trade-offs
Comfortable driving innovation and AI/ML adoption while keeping platforms stable and reliable
