Director of Global Logistics

An advanced hardware and defense technology company is seeking a Director of Global Logistics to build and lead its end-to-end logistics and international shipping operation.

This is a highly strategic and hands-on leadership role focused on standing up scalable global logistics infrastructure from the ground up. The ideal candidate has experience operating in complex, fast-moving environments where they were responsible not only for execution, but also for designing the systems, workflows, and processes behind the operation.

The role will oversee international shipping, freight forwarding, customs coordination, export compliance, and logistics operations supporting highly regulated hardware programs and global customers.

Responsibilities

Global Logistics & Shipping Operations
Own all inbound and outbound logistics operations across domestic and international channels
Manage carrier selection, routing strategies, freight forwarding partners, and shipment execution
Coordinate closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Program teams to ensure successful delivery execution
Ensure shipments are delivered on time, compliantly, and without damage
Build scalable shipping workflows capable of supporting increasing production volume and global operations
Export Compliance & International Trade
Ensure compliance with ITAR, EAR, and other applicable export regulations
Oversee export classifications including ECCN and USML categorization
Manage international shipment execution including government and defense-related programs
Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and external logistics providers
Maintain documentation, audit readiness, filings, and shipment records
Process Development & Operational Scale
Establish logistics infrastructure, documentation standards, SOPs, packaging procedures, and shipment workflows
Implement scalable operational processes and systems for shipping and trade compliance
Help define organizational structure and operational ownership across logistics functions
Partner cross-functionally to improve visibility, efficiency, and operational readiness
Risk Management & Issue Resolution
Identify and mitigate shipping, customs, compliance, and operational risks
Resolve shipment delays, customs holds, and transportation issues
Act as escalation point for critical logistics and trade-related problems

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in logistics, global shipping, international trade, or export operations
  • Strong experience with international freight forwarding and customs processes
  • Working knowledge of ITAR, EAR, export controls, and trade compliance requirements
  • Experience managing customs documentation, brokers, and global shipment execution
  • Proven experience building or scaling logistics operations, processes, or teams
  • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong cross-functional communication and operational leadership skills

Preferred Experience

  • Defense, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, or other regulated hardware industries
  • Experience supporting FMS, government, or defense-related shipment requirements
  • Familiarity with ERP, WMS, or TMS platforms and logistics system integrations
  • Experience managing 3PLs, freight forwarders, and external logistics partners at scale
  • Exposure to ATA Carnet processes and temporary import/export workflows
  • Startup, scale-up, or high-growth operational experience strongly preferred
  • Licensed Export Compliance Officer certification or equivalent experience is a plus

What Makes This Opportunity Unique

This is an opportunity to build a global logistics function from the ground up inside a rapidly scaling advanced hardware environment.

The company is looking for someone who can create structure, processes, and operational rigor where little infrastructure currently exists. The right person will have significant ownership and influence across logistics strategy, trade compliance, operational scaling, and international execution.

The role is best suited for someone who enjoys building systems, solving complex operational problems, and operating close to hardware, manufacturing, and mission-critical delivery timelines.
